The new currency policy implemented by the Central Bank of Nigeria had bright promises but so far, it has somewhat contributed to the hardship of the masses.

A recent video has exposed the hardship experienced by people at the grassroot as a result of the new currency policy.

A Twitter user with the handle @HelenTemitope shared the experience she encountered.

She was trying to mend one of her spoilt shoes and the shoe mender asked her to bring any money she had, whether new or old currency.

He told her that he had been trekking for over three hours with no customers and he hasn’t eaten.

The kind lady decided to give him food, and also went ahead to give him raw garri, after he was done rendering service to her.

She also took the time to remind everyone that a lot of people are suffering under this new policy.

“Until today, i haven’t felt this bad about this new note scarcity. I called a shoemaker to amend my slippers. He said I should bring any money I have because he hasn’t got any money to eat today, that he has been trekking for more than 3hrs. I felt so bad for him”, she said.

“Measures should have been put in place to make this whole transition easier but they weren’t, typical Buhari’s way of doing things. My 3 pm inspection appointment got canceled because of the same scarcity.”
