A woman pleads for food every day, but her husband, a doctor, refuses. He claims she has a rare stomach disease and can only drink water and consume liquid food. But when she uncovers the real reason behind the prohibition and a terrifying secret the doctor was hiding, no one could have imagined what would happen next.

“Honey, I’m so hungry. My stomach is growling,” Norah said, her voice barely audible as she slowly brought her skeletal hands to her shrunken belly.

Seeing that, Daniel her husband, and also a doctor calmly approached. He gently caressed his wife’s face but then shook his head in negation, as if he were already familiar with this dialogue.

“You know that today is the day to drink only water. Don’t you remember? You can’t eat today, Nora. I’m so sorry,” he said, maintaining a firm yet caring tone.

Norah sighed deeply. She seemed to gather the little strength she had left to argue. “But is this really necessary? Look at me. I’m so thin. I can feel all my bones already. Continuing without eating could make my situation even worse,” she said, her eyes filled with a silent sadness.

Daniel continued to caress her face as if it were a demonstration of care, but there was a subtle and constant control in every word.

“Nora, you know this is the protocol,” he explained, as if repeating an old rule. “If it were up to me, I’d prepare wonderful food for you right now. But your stomach—it can’t handle it. If you don’t follow this strict diet, you risk your life. And I would never forgive myself if I lost you. Besides being your husband, I’m your doctor. I know what’s best for you. No food today. I’m sorry, my love.”

Then Daniel continued, “Tomorrow, you can go back to baby food—to liquid meals. But today, today is fasting day. Your stomach needs to rest to handle the next stage. It’s all for your own good.”

He gave her a soft kiss on the forehead. “Now I have to go to work. And please, no mischief, okay? Stay quiet and wait for me.”

Norah just watched him without reaction. Her eyes fell to her body, almost unrecognizable—a frail body with bones jutting out under pale skin, thin and lifeless legs, motionless on the wheelchair. She couldn’t even remember the last time she had stood up.

She looked at herself, as if trying to understand who that woman reflected in her own image was. Sighing again, she murmured to her own body, “Even if I wanted to get up to something, how would I? I’m trapped here. Trapped in this body with no energy, almost lifeless.”

Tears ran down her cheeks so thin that they seemed shaped by the pain itself. She cried softly, as if she no longer had a voice to scream.
